“Weed Talk No. 1, 2024” by Burns Rolland
Dear lake residents,
Barnes Lake will have its first spray event of this year, likely by
Tuesday, April 30th. This treatment will primarily address algae and starry stone
wart. The objective is to get a good jump on weed control before the
lake warms up in the coming weeks.
See your local tree for posting.
Sincerely,
Burns Rolland
Chairman of Lake Improvement Board
Sorry for the Digital Payment Error on this site!!
Thanks for letting me know and for everyone’s patience while I corrected the digital payment error on the website.
It would not allow the $80.00 dollar dues payments; I apologize for overlooking this update.
It has been corrected now.

Fishing Contest WINNERS ANNOUNCED from the Rickords
Congratulations to all our Barnes Lake Fisherman!! Great job this year.
Fish Stocking by Alex Nikora
This year we couldn’t get any perch for stocking due to the hatchery killed them all off by accidentally draining the ponds. So we stocked 895 walleye 5-10” for a total of $3,000.

Barnes Lake Improvement Board: Our spraying season has wrapped up for the year. Pam and Chuck did a lot of the lake samples this year and Pat was able to run the samples up to be tested. We have a good situation for nice lake water. Assessment postcards have been sent out and the meeting will be on October 21 at 8AM at the Deerfield Township Hall. We have a private company coming to evaluate whether the way we are spraying is the most effective.
Old Business:
A. Park Lot and street new and outstanding issues: Park Lot G has erosion that needs to be addressed, Park Lot P still needs a retainer wall, Park Lot B will have the tree removed when the company is able to, Park Lot C had the road graded by it but we won’t know if it’s effective until it rains, and on Park Lot Q the barriers are working well.
B. Road Commission Lakeshore/Hillside Project: The meeting with Ray Hayes was productive. Cory will look at some new engineering options to fix the water flow issues. It will be about 5 weeks before any of that can be implemented. We have a storm drain on Lot E with no easement for the road commission to access it. A motion was made by Pat Betcher and seconded by Teresa Rolland to grant the Lapeer County Road Commission a 10-foot easement on Park Lot E to access the storm drain. Motion passed.
C. New Website Items: Tabled until November.
D. Legal Action Thompson vs. BLC: Still in litigation and can’t be discussed.
New Business: none
Correspondence: Pam received an email from Susan asking who put up a fence on the north side of Lot L between her and the lot. Everyone was confused as to what happened
Upcoming Events: Christmas Home Décor Contest will be 12/16 between 7 and 10 PM
Lacy Minard made a motion to adjourn the meeting and was seconded by Cece Stramsak at 7:58 PM. Motion carried.
Respectfully submitted, Lacy Minard

Flotilla 2023 Re-Cap by Rod Mills
For everyone that wasn’t there this year, Flotilla 2023 was held on August 12th in the small lake!! Weather was fantastic. We had and a GREAT turn out and a whole lot of FUN.
We had a 50/50 prize of just over $500 to the winner. Congratulations Kyle B.
Special Thanks to John and Terri Allen for purchasing and selling Flotilla 2022 Can Koozies which they kindly donated all proceeds of $180. They had 2 sizes this year. Added tall ones which were very popular.
There were also many others that pitched in items to raffle and sell. Blow up palm tree raffle was extra $100 for the BLC. Donated shots, hot dogs, etc.
Thank you everyone. Greatly appreciated!!
I believe we had somewhere around 21 boats tied up at one time. Not sure if we broke the record of 21.
Total for the day was $1,013.00 raised for Barnes Lake Club. Watch the Barnes Lake Club website for next year’s date. Hope to see you there!!
Rod Mills
