Welcome Spring!
The 2nd spray event of this year will occur the week of May 21st in advance of Memorial Day Weekend, to address algae and Starry Stonewart.
You should see weed control operations either Monday or Tuesday.
All paperwork was completed this year for the Nest/Egg Destruction on Barnes Lake.
Goose Busters was able to come out and get 11 nests and 58 eggs.
Our information was submitted to the DNR. Unfortunately, the Goose Round-Up program has been cancelled for this year due to High Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI). Relocation of Canada geese has the risk of transporting HPAI around the state and facilitating the spread of the virus.
Next year we should be able to resume a normal round up program.
Thank you and have a great summer!
This year we are adding Small Mouth Bass to the approve contest fish!!

Special Events Reports:
A. Fishing Contest: John sent Cece the final report and checks will be mailed to the winners this week.
B. Halloween Party: Pam printed a report thanking everyone who helped out with the event and giving us the turnout. It was much better then last year and very fun!
C. Christmas Lights Contest: Derek was absent but the judging will take place December 15th between 7 and 10.
Beach/Pavilion Maintenance Report: Alex reported that everything is in and buttoned up for the winter.
Park Lot Maintenance: Everything is quiet on the lots. The fence on K Lot was not well received on the adjacent property. 500 walleye and 400 crappie were stocked in the lake.
Scouting Report: Teresa let us know that the Scouts had their Court of Honor at the park with a great turnout this year. They camped at Wolverine campground this fall. Coming up is a lock in at the rec center. The Scouts helped Alex with the picnic tables and buttoning up the park lot.
Barnes Lake Improvement Board: Burns informed us that it was $32K this year for lake spray expenses. The dredge project is wrapping up, there’s seed on Lot G and Oliver’s lot. Our Secci disk reports are back and the numbers are improving. The watershed study will be posted to the BLC website soon.
Old Business:
A. Lawsuit: Pat outlined the agreement between the Thompsons and the BLC. A brief overview is that he may use the driveway for egress only, and we will be paid a reparation amount within 6 months of the judgement. A complete outline of the overview will be posted at a later date after the settlement goes through.
B. Overview of the Agreement: A motion was made by Alex Nikora to have a new survey done of the park lot to mark the easement not to exceed $1400 and was seconded by Teresa Rolland. Motion passed.
C. Message Board: Derek was absent.
D. BLC Welcome Packet: Teresa and Dee are still working on it.
E. Park Lot Issues: The trees on E Lot will be removed when Steve is able, 3 60lb bags on stones were dropped on the culvert at G Lot, no work done on P Lot retaining wall yet.
F. Road Commission @ Lakeshore and Hillside: Storm work will be done at the corner but we still don’t have a lot of detail from the road commission.
G. Website Info Additions: The lost and found will be coming soon for spring. Deerfield Township will be amending it’s laws for vicious dogs in the future and we put the dog waste ordinance in the mailer. This spring will be a good time to launch an advertisement page on the website.
New Business:
A. Forest Place: Multiple lots are encroaching on Forest Place. Maintaining control of the drain and the health of the lot helps the lake. Burns would like to avoid another dredge since the last one was so difficult from start to finish. The road commission doesn’t have a record of ownership so the BLC will work on getting the deed, surveying the lot, and then send out encroachment letters. Davis will do the survey at a discounted cost to us. Alex Nikora made a motion to have the lot surveyed for $200, seconded by Teresa Rolland and the motion carried.
B. Broken Cameras: Some of the beach and pavilion cameras are failing and need to be replaced. Alex priced the cameras at around $230. Lacy Minard made a motion to buy new cameras with the cost not to exceed $250 and was seconded by Teresa Rolland. Motion passed.
Correspondence: none
Cece Stramsak made a motion to adjourn and was seconded by Lacy Minard. The motion carried and the meeting adjourned at 8:13 PM.

The Boy Scouts reported, via Teresa Rolland, that the 1st camp at Morey Outpost was a great weekend. 4 Webelos joined, 4 Sunday night meetings have been held, one scout graduated to Eagle Scout and they’ve planned for a Tawas Point camp later this year.
Burns Rolland discussed the Barnes Lake Improvement Board topics: May stay with Clark for the lake spraying, Oliver’s land was leveled and the lot with the spoils from the dredging was as well. The ruts on G lot need to be restored. Pam added that she is still trying to get answers from the Road Commission regarding their near-future plans for the roads around the lake.
